John, a police sergeant, was off work for nearly a year with a post-viral syndrome that caused muscular pain and fatigue...
He feared he would never return to work until he was referred to the occupational therapy service. The occupational therapy team engaged him in a pain-management programme and gentle exercise that pushed him to the limits of his ability.
The occupational therapists provided a graded approach to getting him back to work, where he built up to resuming full duties over several months. They also arranged for him to work at his local station, nearer to home, saving two hours of traveling a day. John made a full recovery and is back at work full-time.
This short film explains how occupational therapists help people carry out the activities they need or want to do. People describe how they have benefited from occupational therapy services making a huge difference to their lives.
