Outcome for patients & OT subsets
The College has worked with members to develop an OT subset of terms for 'Outcomes for patients'.
The College is leading a national project to develop sets of OT terms for use in electronic care record systems. The UK national clinical terminology is SNOMED CT, with over 400,000 clinical terms, including terms collected in the 1990s by the UK Clinical Terms Project. Subsets are lists of related clinical terms. They will be used in pick lists to quickly and consistently select the correct ‘OT’ term to record in a service user’s electronic care record.
The College has completed the first subset, the names of ‘Assessment tools used by occupational therapists’. This subset has been incorporated into SNOMED CT.
The second OT subset, which includes terms for ‘outcomes for patients’, has been submitted to the national SNOMED CT team. Further work is ongoing to reconcile the subset with existing terms found in SNOMED CT, and to submit terms that are not already in SNOMED CT.
