Choose a programme that suits your style of learning
All OT programmes have their own distinctive characteristics and all the programmes featured on this site and in the Careers Handbook have been accredited by the College. That means they have met a set of rigorous standards. However, the courses may deliver or structure learning differently. Some might teach via lectures and focus on subjects such as anatomy and physiology. Other courses might take a problem-based learning approach and use more group work. It is worth researching the different programmes to find those that fit your style of learning and personal preferences.

If you are looking to become an occupational therapist, it is important to check that the programme you want to study is accredited by the College of Occupational Therapists, the professional body for occupational therapy staff in the UK. All the programmes listed in this handbook are accredited by us to ensure that they are up to date with current thinking and practice in occupational therapy.
In addition, College accredited programmes are recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, which means that graduates’ qualifications are recognised in around 60 countries worldwide.
If you are looking for study to help you as a support worker or technician, the College has endorsed two programmes so far – the HNC in Occupational Therapy Support at Langside College in Glasgow (which is also available by distance learning) and the Open University’s Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (carried out by distance learning while you are employed).
