‘Never too late to rock and roll…’
In an inspirational start to the COT’s 34th annual conference and exhibition, being held in Brighton from 23 to 25 June, Heléna Herklots, Age UK’s service director, told delegates that occupational therapy is ‘crucial’ to the work that people do with older people.

Referring to the fact that there are more people aged over 60 in the UK today than there are aged under 18, that the number of over-85s is set to double in the next 20 years and that one in four children born today will live to be 100, Ms Herklots stressed that ‘this is all about transformational change’.

‘We all know that the ageing population is throwing up huge challenges,’ she said. But she questioned whether the media reflects the society that we actually live in. Using music festivals with headlining acts where the rock stars are older people, she told delegates that clearly ‘it is never too late to rock and roll.’

On the charity working in partnership with COT and the profession she enthused: ‘Occupational therapy is essential to improving someone’s life and we would like to help champion the work you do.’
