Renewing your BAOT membership is worth it now more than ever
Renewal forms will be sent out to all existing BAOT members by the end of September in time for the renewal process which begins on 1 October 2011. If you pay for your BAOT membership by Direct Debit you don't need to do anything because your membership will be automatically renewed, unless you notify us otherwise.
If you pay by cheque or credit card, why not change your payment method to Direct Debit?
Direct Debit offers you the benefit of spreading the cost of membership over 12 monthly installments. Your subscription rate would be adjusted automatically each year. Paying by Direct Debit enables us to provide members with a more efficient service and reduces the organisation's costs. Please complete the Direct Debit of your renewal form and return it to us if you wish to change to Direct Debit.
With wage freezes, increasing fuel and food bills, jobs and pension cuts throughout health and social care, renewing your BAOT membership may seem like a luxury you can’t afford. But, utilise all the benefits of BAOT and how can you afford not to continue your membership?
Maintaining your professional identity
The Health Professions Council (HPC) will be contacting all registered occupational therapists this autumn to invite you to re-register. Also, a small, random number of registered OTs will be audited by the HPC to monitor registrants’ compliance with the HPC standards. BAOT members have access to resources to get you through these processes. Feature articles in OTnews, the BAOT website and dedicated staff members provide key dates, information, reference notes and the one-to-one support you’ll need to feel at ease during the renewal and auditing processes.
Protecting your job and pension
We have been working with contacts in Parliament and the wider political arena to give a greater say to OTs in the new commissioning framework. We now have regular meetings with Ann Milton MP, Minister for Health, and other senior politicians and will continue to lobby politicians as the changes to the Health and Social Care Bill progresses. UNISON supports our members and promotes a clear message that the NHS is not for sale and everybody needs a decent pension – wherever they work. Renew your membership and work with us to save the jobs and pensions of BAOT members.
Saving you money
An annual subscription to the British Journal of Occupational Therapists (BJOT) currently costs £210. All BAOT members receive BJOT as well as online access to the renowned Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy (CJOT) and now the Australian Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT), at no extra expense. Five million pounds of professional indemnity insurance covers you against potential professional practice claims during the entirety of your membership and UNISON representation with the HPC as well as in the workplace saves you the high costs of solicitor fees. On a lighter note, UNISON’s holiday club will save you 10% off on most holiday packages. This means your family can save up to £250 on your next holiday.
BAOT membership offers you a wealth of resources, support and opportunities. With all the cost saving and value added packages included in your membership, renew today and continue to receive the very best for you and your profession.
