The Allied Health Professions Strategy
The AHP Strategy is expected to be launched at the end of February 2012
The aim of the AHP Strategy is to provide a high level road map for the Allied Health Professions for the next five years. It focuses on the roles and responsibilities of the AHP workforce at all levels and how these can be developed to enhance the planning and delivery of AHP practices that support the health and social well-being of the population of Northern Ireland.
Why is the Allied Health Professions Strategy important?
This strategy will be outlining the direction of travel for the next five years for AHPs in Northern Ireland including occupational therapists.
What is COT doing about the Allied Health Professions Strategy?
- COT has responded to the consultation and is supporting the drafters of the final document with any information required
- COT will be present at the launch with a stand to raise the profile of occupational therapists
- COT will be supporting members to be able to deliver on the key themes
- COT is lobbying through AHPFNI to improve structures representing AHPS including occupational therapists throughout health and social care in Northern Ireland
What can you do about the Allied Health Professions Strategy?
- When the report is launched look at what are actions assigned to you within the context of your role/post
- Representation across all the government structures and trust infrastructures will be increasingly important so that occupational therapists are involved in strategy, planning and development of the services they are delivering. Look at the where you can develop your skills and be ambassadors for the profession. Look at what is available at COT and on the website such as the mentorship scheme. Developing clinical, management and leadership skills will prepare you for any opportunities that may come along.
