Influence political representatives
Influencing is essential to raise the profile of the profession among decision makers
The framework within which occupational therapists work is directly affected by political decision making at national and local level. It is essential that decision makers understand the benefits of occupational therapy for service users and budget holders.
BAOT/COT influences on behalf of the profession
As the professional body for occupational therapy we campaign at a national level to advance the profession and promote its unique philosophy and practice. We have Policy Officers in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who actively build relationships and influence the national parliaments and assemblies.
Use your expertise to promote the profession at a local level
Occupational therapists are best placed to understand the challenges and opportunities facing the profession. All of us have a responsibility to promote the profession. Use your professional networks, and networking opportunities provided by BAOT/COT local and regional groups, to promote the profession at a local level.
BAOT/COT provides resources to help you influence decision makers
Members of BAOT/COT can join local and regional groups to develop profession networks. Members also have access to a range of resources including letter templates, presentations, leaflets, position statements, briefing documents and special events, including Annual Conference.
Influencing supports your continuing professional development
Taking responsibility for the promotion of the profession is an excellent way to build evidence for your CPD portfolio.
