Promote OT in your community

Organise an event for Occupational Therapy Week

Occupational Therapy Week is your chance to promote the profession to the public. The College has produced resources to help you organise an event during OT Week.
Resources include:

  • leaflets;
  • suggestions for display boards;
  • suggested activities for a stall at a community event;
  • school activities;
  • speakers' subjects;

Getting involved in OT Week will also provide evidence for your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio.

Make use of promotional opportunities arising through your employer

Take part in any public consultations or promotional activities that your employer undertakes in the community. Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and NHS Trusts often have open days or recruitment events at which occupational therapy could be promoted to the public.

Voice the OT perspective on local issues

Write to your council or local papers to promote occupational therapy in relation to issues such as accessibility, transport and public services.

Join or start a local group

Joining or starting a local group is an excellent way to meet and join forces with other occupational therapists and other community organisations. Your local group can take an active role in promoting occupational therapy within the community.
