Forensic mental health has become one of the fastest growing specialisms in occupational therapy over recent years. Increasingly, forensic occupational therapists are developing and sharing ideas through research, publication and networking. For example the Forensic Occupational Therapy e-discussion Group now has around 350 members worldwide. This free service enables forensic occupational therapists to pose questions and participate in on-line debates. I've found the quickest way to access this service is to go to www.google.co.uk and type in 'forensic_occupational_therapy'. New users can sign in at the top of the page.

Sharing Best Practice in Forensic Occupational Therapy

This will provide prospective presenters with an opportunity to demonstrate how occupational therapists can make a difference to forensic service initiatives, clinical practice and patient/service user outcomes. Louise Farnworth, Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy, Monash University, Australia has agreed to give a keynote speech.

The conference organisers are currently inviting people to submit abstracts for the conference. The closing date for submissions was 31st January 2007. For more information about the call for papers, please click here

If you are working in the London area or Southern England, the Forensic Occupational Therapy Peer Support Group holds quarterly study days at various locations across the region. The study days are completely free and there are opportunities for people to visit other forensic services, establish networks and even develop their presentation skills in a less formal setting. For details of the next study day contact Helen Lycett at helen.lycett@oxmht-tr.nhs.uk
