What is the Dementia Clinical Forum?

The Dementia Clinical Forum is for Specialist Section – Older People members who work with people with dementia. This includes younger people with dementia.

This is a site under construction for the next several months, hopefully with input from the membership, COT and Universities we will be able to have a site that reflects current practice and new developments, as well as providing evidence to support and encourage innovative practice.

Dementia Forum Lead

Heather EdewardsHeather Edwards is the new dementia Forum Lead.

In this position I would like to reach out to all those members who have an interest in dementia. This can cover many OT’s not just those working in mental health settings, and I would like to see this forum develop and engage with as many people as possible. This page will reflect current practice and new developments, and hopefully facilitate an exchange of ideas, between practitioners, COT and academia.

I will be emailing all of you who have expressed an interest in the dementia forum on a regular basis, your responses are vital to keep this forum a true representation of current practice. Many times the opinion of COT is sought on issues relating to dementia, the response we give is all the better for the views of the membership.

Areas covered:

Practice Guidelines Project

The Dementia Clinical Forum is currently compiling Practice Guidelines for occupational therapy for people with dementia. The guidelines project has been sanctioned by the College of Occupational Therapists Practice Publications Group.
The project is currently on hold but will be started up again towards the end of the year. All the hard work that has already gone into the project in the form of article appraisals will not be wasted, and there will be a need to do further appraisals during the coming year.  We will be asking all COTSS-OP members to contribute when we start to seek out current practice.
We have produced an information pack to provide guidance on the process we are using, to help any volunteers. If anyone would like further information about the project, or would like to get involved, please contact Heather Edwards heatheredwards@nhs.net.
