Encourage your Member of the Welsh Assembly to sign reablement Statement of Opinion
The Welsh Reablement Alliance (of which COT is a key and founding member) has issued a Statement of Opinion to 'Call on the Welsh Government to continue to develop reablement services'. This has been issued in the run up to the Social Services Bill, due out in March 2012. The Social Services Bill is a key action in the Welsh Government’s Programme. There will be a full public consultation on the Bill, with a view to introducing the Bill into the National Assembly in October 2012.

Reshaping and redesigning services across health and social care to:
- make the best use of OT resources
- deliver real occupationally based and person centred outcomes for people
- enable the people who urgently need our services to access them in a timely manner
See From interface to integration for a model for jointed up OT services based on the International Classification on Disability.
The 2010 Mental Health Measure has come into effect and the Government is currently consulting on the regulations which will describe how it is implemented
The measure will give people the right to an assessment and new primary care services and to re-enter secondary mental health services within a specified period if they become unwell again. It will be vital to ensure that occupational therapists are employed in the new primary care assessments and support services.
The Welsh Government will be introducing a new social services bill and a new housing bill during the next five years
These will “sweep away all existing legislation”. We will see opportunities to improve the framework for social care and housing, although we will also need to ensure that important rights for people with disabilities and vulnerable people needing care are respected. A major part of the social services bill will be the development of reablement services. The white paper Sustainable Social Services: A Framework for Action identified OTs as having a ‘key role in reablement services' (p21).
Together for Health is the new five year vision of health services across Wales
Alongside other policies, such as Setting the Direction and the Rural Health Plan, the intention is for all services to deliver equitable, effective and safe services as close to the person as possible. Services will be reconfigured to be considerably more community and primary care based. Local Health Boards are currently submitting delivery plans to show how they will meet the targets in Together for Health.

Personal and Public Involvement is a legislative requirement for Health and Social Care organisations as laid down in the Health and Social Services (Reform) Northern Ireland Act 2009
Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) is about service users, carers and the public influencing the planning, commissioning and delivery of health and social care services in ways that are accessible and meaningful to them. PPI is also about involving local communities and the general population in issues of broad public interest, such as the location or nature of local services.
