NICE Public Health Guidance (PH16) to be reviewed again in 2014

In line with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) review process, public health guidance 16 'Occupational therapy interventions and physical activity interventions to promote the mental wellbeing of older people in primary care and residential care' (2008) has been reviewed to determine whether all or part of it should be updated at this stage.

College co-launches campaign to promote housing adaptations and repair for older people in Wales

The College of Occupational Therapists, Care & Repair Cymru, the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales and Age Cymru, have launched a campaign to ensure older people and their families and representatives have clear information about the support that is available for housing adaptations and repairs.

Win a ticket to the COTEC-ENOTHE Congress 2016

In 2011 the Council of Occupational Therapists for the European Countries (COTEC) celebrates its 25th anniversary and, in 2012, COTEC will support the European Year of Active and Healthy Ageing. To bring both of these events togther COTEC is running a poster competition for all 27 member associations on the theme of 'OT and Active and Healthy Ageing'. All members of the 27 COTEC member associations are eligible to submit a poster to the competition. The UK will be choosing one poster to go forward.

Protection of older people in Wales: A guide to the law

The Older People’s Commissioner has published a really useful guide to the law around protection of older people. Its purpose is to help make practitioners more aware of the law available to them in their day to day work. It is not a substitute for obtaining legal advice nor is it a definitive statement of the law.  However, it is a helpful starting point.

Shortage of occupational therapists highlighted in inquiry into housing and care for older people

A new report from The All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People calls on government to take urgent action to enable older people to live well at home. The report follows an inquiry into the barriers faced by older people who want to stay in their own home, but are struggling to do so.  Among the obstacles found were:
